Kerry McGregor Kerry McGregor - studio founder
Diploma of Classical Yoga
Certificate 3 in Health - Therapeutic Massage.
RCYP2
Member: Yoga Australia (YA)
Kerry first found Yoga in her efforts to offer her massage clients a more comprehensive approach to long term spinal care and core stability issues. Having had two daughters born within a year of each other, Kerry found Yoga to be instrumental in her own physical recovery, and as a result has developed a strong interest in using Yoga's ability to heal, restore and strengthen our bodies.
In raising her daughters, Kerry was amazed at the benefits they experienced from the yoga she shared with them. She undertook the internationally recognized Radiant Child Yoga Program training (RCYP) in order to be able to share yoga with children of all ages.
Her observation of the dramatic difference yoga could make to teenagers (especially to study and focussing skills in VCE years) led Kerry to extend her training still further and undertake a Diploma of Yoga and Meditation Teaching at the Australian College of Classical Yoga. She now teaches people of all ages and believes deeply that yoga is a foundational tool for life itself. Kerry continues to take workshops with international teachers whenever possible to build and deepen her knowledge and feels very lucky indeed to have been able to make yoga her work, sharing this incredible gift with others.
Kerry is also an accomplished vegetarian cook, loves catering for yoga retreats, and shares vegetarian recipes on her site salivate...

Community News Community News - Karma Yoga
Karma Yoga is the path of selfless action - where the outcome of our actions is not to gratify our egos but to offer sincere help and assistance.
On the first Sunday of each month, Koru will hold a Karma class to assist the local community in some way. In the past, we have assisted yogis in Christchurch following their terrible earthquakes. We are open to suggestions from those in our community who may know where assistance is needed and we want to be in a position to respond as and when need arises. First class is Sunday October 2nd at 11.45am to 12.45pm. Payment is by donation and we suggest a $10 minimum. Naturally you are free to contribute more if you are able :-)

General Hatha General Hatha
These classes offer a variety of asanas, or poetures, all at a variety of levels to suit differing abilities. The goal is to restore our bodies’ natural equilibrium; on a physical level this means lengthening and strengthening muscles, building bone density, creating healthy joints and a good posture.
Additionally though, we aim to assist the student in finding a deeper peace of mind and a release from stress and tension - to develop mindfulness in their day to day life as well as in their yogic practise.
Our Hatha classes involve 15 to 20 minutes of shavasana, or deep Yogic relaxation. Shavasana offers us the opportunity to fully surrender to the moment, to let go of thoughts, worries, plans, memories and even our concepts of who we are.
We allow the body to rest and the mind to ‘recharge it’s batteries’, bringing us back to everyday life with renewed focus and balance.
Meditation for Beginners Meditation for Beginners Workshop (lead by Julia Toral)
8 weeks $150
The workshop follows the path of Yoga (8 limbs of Yoga) toward the final purpose of Yoga which is union between the Universal Self and the Individual Self (where Samahdi or absolute wisdom resides).
The workshop includes: Guided Yogic Relaxation in order to accomplish a state of complete letting go of mind and body and get into a meditative state, Introduction and practise of Conscious breathing (Pranayama), Introduction and practise of awareness of the Senses (Pratyahara), Introduction and practise of Contemplation (Dharana), Introduction and practise of profound abstract Meditation (Dhyana).

About Julia Toral
Julia trained under Swami Shantananda at the Australian College of Classical Yoga. She is a member of Yoga Australia and of the Association of Teachers of Meditation of Australia as a Personal Development and Spiritual Guide. She also has a background in Pedagogy and Psychiatry which has led her to understand the threads of our busy minds.
Fitness Yoga Fitness Yoga
Fitness Yoga is dynamic, powerful and graceful. Regular yoga poses are sequenced Vinyasa style so that you are in constant movement. Your cardio vascular health is targeted here, and with the increase in heart rate, the added benefit is that your metabolism fires up and begins burning calories.
Get ready to sweat and transform your body and your attitude!. :-)
Morning Flow Morning Flow
This class is designed to greet the sun at dawn - waking your mind, body and spirit by gently preparing the joints, connecting with the breath, then matching your breath to your movement in a beautiful, flowing vinyasa sequence. Leave the class with an open heart, alert mind, and a cup of fragrant warm chai to see you into your day.
Restorative Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga offers us the opportunity to step away from the frantic pace of life so many of us experience, with its high levels of stress and competition, and turn our awareness inwards to nurture our bodies, rather than push them.
Naturally, it is particularly good during times of illness or pain, as part of the recovery process, or to help the body during pregnancy and after childbirth. But many of us underestimate the value of incorporating a regular restorative class alongside our stronger practice of general hatha or fitness classes.
Learning to tune in to our bodies at all levels, and understanding how a restorative practice may positively impact our digestive and reproductive systems, along with blood pressure and blood sugar issues are all benefits of this class.
Yin style Yin Yoga
On a purely anatomical level, Yin yoga targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments and tendons in the joints and spine. Over time, incorporating the practice of yin yoga with your general practice can lengthen these tissues, increasing the body's range of motion more than if we focus purely on our muscles. The physical benefits of the practice are dependant on two variables: the duration of the asana, and the temperature of the muscle. Read more about these variables hereto see if this class is for you. On a deeper yogic level, yin yoga can assist us in exploring the mind and observing how it works. Because of the long duration of asanas in yin, one of the key values cultivated is patience, and we are able to observe our mind's response to a slower, more mindful practice.

About Koru Welcome to Koru Yoga...
The koru is an unfurling silver fern frond. It symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Maori art, often used as a symbol of creation, with the circular shape of the koru conveying the idea of perpetual movement and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. It reaches towards the light, expanding and growing, encouraging new, positive beginnings and the unfolding of new life. It represents renewal and hope for the future - a reminder that everything is reborn and continues, that life both changes and yet stays constant.
Acknowledgment to Diana Adams, Canterbury Artist, whose gorgeous koru symbolises everything yoga is to me. My deepest thanks goes out to her for her permission to use this beautiful image. If you enjoy her work as much as I do, please visit her site.

FAQs and Info General Yoga Class Dos and Don'ts - designed to help you get the most out of your class...
DO arrive early - getting to class about 10 minutes early can help you settle in and align your attitude with the purpose of the class. While you are waiting you can warm up with some joint rotations and start to connect with your breath.
DON'T eat for 2-3 hours before the class - practising asana on a full stomach may cause cramps, nausea or vomitting, especially in twists, deep forward bends and inversions. Digesting food also takes energy which can make you lethargic. Just bring some water with you.
DO let your teacher know of any injuries or conditions that may affect your practice - If you are injured or tired, skip poses that you can't or shouldn't do, or try a modified version.
DON'T bring pagers or cell phones to class. It is important to make time for your practice away from business and socializing, and is only fair to let others do the same in peace.
DO be quiet from the moment you enter the studio. It is wonderful to share a class with friends but you will benefit far more from it if you can maintain an inner focus and calm - we have great coffee shops just moments away if you want to catch up after your class :-)
DON'T enter class late or leave early. You short change yourself and it is disruptive to other students and your teacher.
DO arrive clean and fresh and free of any strong perfumes or scents that may affect others. Yoga requires strong steady breath work and it can be challenging to breathe deeply if an overwhelming perfume is wafting around your nostrils. :-)
DONT push it. Instead of trying to go as deeply or completely into a pose as you may observe others doing, connect with your body and do only what you can without straining or injuring yourself. You will go further with your posture work if you cultivate a loving attitude towards yourself and work from where you ARE, not where you think you SHOULD be :-)
DO take some time to reflect on what you learnt during the class, noting any instructions that resonated with you. Everything you take away helps deepen your personal practice. Finally, DO HAVE FUN :-)
